Newcomer Troi Irons has been making waves ever since the release of her October 2016 EP Turbulence. The alt-rock performer recently stopped by Fuse to discuss her path from college at 13 to eventual Def Jam signee.
"I feel like I've been an adult for a long time, so when it comes to actually doing the music and the work, it's not like this is new to me," she explains. "[Turbulence] was something that I wrote and produced and really put my heart and soul into. So it was fun releasing it and seeing that people actually connected to something that I made in my bedroom."
As for who actually inspired her to join the Def Jam family, Irons shouted out fellow West Coast act Vince Staples.
"I just think he's the coolest thing ever...It looks like he's got the creative control. That's inspiring to me. Like 'What's that label doing, and why do they care so much about the art form?'"
