Aussie Pop Star Cody Simpson Joins 'Dancing With the Stars'
The latest crop of stars to showcase their dancing skills—or lack of—has been revealed with two young pop stars competing for the Mirror Ball trophy.
Australian singer Cody Simpson—who recently gushed to Fuse News about dating the daughter of a Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star—will team up with 20-year-old dance coach Witney Carson for the series. With 17-year-old Simpson, they will be the youngest couple to ever compete on the show. The "Pretty Brown Eyes" singer wrote on Twitter that he was "stoked" for his DWTS journey to begin.
James Maslow, a member of Nickelodeon-created band Big Time Rush, is also on this season. The 23-year-old singer joins Peta Murgatroyd, who won Season 14 with retired NFL player Donald Driver.
While neither act is at Justin Bieber or One Direction-level status—Simpson has yet to crack the Billboard Hot 100 while BTR peaked after a 2011 collabo with Snoop Dogg hit No. 72—both have hugely-supportive fanbases.
The Aussie star has three Top 40 albums—earning his first Top 10 album with last year's Surfers Paradise. Cody went on his first headlining tour last year, and the dude even has his own doll. Meanwhile, Big Time Rush boast two Top 5 albums and have been steadily headlining tours since 2011, with a world tour that kicked off last month.
There certainly are dedicated legions of fans out there putting their money towards these rising pop phenoms. Will fans channel that same support into votes on DWTS? We'll find out when this season kicks off on March 17.
