The-Dream, R&B master and writer of all your favorite pop songs, put us in touch with his roots today. His new eight-song collection, IAMSAM, is an archival batch of Sam Cooke covers, including timeless staples like "You Send Me," "Chain Gang" and "Twistin' the Night Away," the song Mr. Nash once told Fuse he'd like to hear while entering Heaven.

Here's what The-Dream had to say about IAMSAM on Instagram:

"My Mother loved a lot of Artist growing up, but the one we shared the most interest in together was Sam Cooke, so Tonight I give him back to her. These songs were originally recording during the making of @beyonce's 4 album in 2010 w my good Friend Pat Thrall. My mother passed on the 23rd day of December in 1992."

IAMSAM is super faithful to the '50s and '60s source material, with barely any especially modern touches. The-Dream hasn't dropped a solo album since 2013's IV Play. He did put out a six-track EP, Crown, back in April. Watch the interview where he tells Fuse about hearing Sam Cooke in the afterlife here:
