Katy Perry Ditches the Kitsch in Gorgeous New "Unconditionally" Video

"It's supposed to evoke this power of love and beauty," Katy said about the video

Katy Perry left her Queen of the Jungle costume at the dry cleaner for her latest Prism video, "Unconditionally."

The Tarsem Singh-directed video (En Vogue, R.E.M.) was inspired by the films Dangerous Liaisons and Anna Karenina, Katy told MTV, but it doesn't exactly follow a straight narrative. "I just wanted to give a lot of gorgeous, beautiful looks... And then some heavy metaphors."

Those heavy metaphors include a bed bursting into flames—I wonder what that's supposed to mean—and getting hit by a car! On the plus side, at least she got to do it in some designer gowns (Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana, to be exact).

"['Unconditionally'] is kind of representational of when love hits you," the new Cover Girl said. "But it's mostly just a beautiful video that's supposed to evoke this power of love and beauty."
