Once again, fans of all the artists in this year's Top 40 of 2015 showed up in full force to vote for our No. 1 video of the year. We heard you loud and clear, Skeleton Clique.
Twenty One Pilots' "Stressed Out" was ultimately defeated in the final round of this year's Top 40 poll, but not before earning millions of votes, and showing just how mighty the group's fan base has quickly become.
When Round 1 polls launched in November there were 39 other huge videos competing for the title. A few weeks later, three "wildcards" came back in Round 4 for a second shot at the top. Clearly, climbing into the finals was no easy feat for TOP fans, so here's to you!
In honor of Twenty One Pilots' Top 40 run, let's look back at the duo's journey to the championship round:
In Round 1, "Stressed Out" was up against Fall Out Boy's hit video "Uma Thurman," and the guys surprisingly beat their mentors to move on. In Round 2 TOP went head-to-head with another band with super-devoted fans, All Time Low, and managed to whiz past "Kids In The Dark."
It was impressive to see "Stressed Out" steamroll right over Maroon 5's megahit "Sugar" in Round 3, yet the Skeleton Clique's hardest-won battle in Top 40, at this point, was Round 4, when they managed to take down Internet sensation Shawn Mendes' "Stitches" video. Things didn't get any easier in Round 5 when the boys were up against The Weeknd's smash "Can't Feel My Face"--but the fans rallied, and the Pilots advanced to the final round!
In Round 6, the final matchup, Twenty One Pilots took on their fiercest competition in Top 40 yet, pop megastar Britney Spears' "Pretty Girls" video with Iggy Azalea. "Stressed Out" was leading early in Round 6, then both videos were neck-and-neck for awhile. Going into the final day of Top 40, the Skeleton Clique surged toward the lead, but couldn't beat the buzzer. This was one of the closest Top 40 championship showdowns ever!
This is Twenty One Pilots' first Top 40 finals appearance, and it's an understatement to say it's well deserved. TOP's amazing fans, the Skeleton Clique, consistently rallied and passionately fought their way toward the top, knocking out challenger after challenger throughout the six-round polldown. You guys seriously rock, and proved exactly why Twenty One Pilots are one of Fuse's 2015 Breakout Artists.
Thank you to all the amazing fans who voted their asses off in every round of this year's Top 40 – Your love and dedication for your favorite artists did not go unnoticed! We can't wait to see you back here next year for another six rounds of Top 40.
