Suicide Squad 2 is happening, no matter what you thought of the first one, and the sequel might be close to contracting its writer. Adam Cozad is the dude, The Hollywood Reporter says. David Ayer, who wrote and directed the $746 million–grossing original last year, is off to direct the Harley Quinn–centric Gotham City Sirens.
Adam Cozad has seen two scripts produced so far. He most recently penned last year's The Legend of Tarzan, from five-time Harry Potter universe director David Yates. It boasted four big names in Margot Robbie, Alexander Skarsgård, Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz and earned $357 million globally.
Before that, Cozad did 2014's Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, which starred Chris Pine and Keira Knightley and was helmed by Kenneth Branagh. It fizzled with $135.5 million worldwide. He also worked on the screenplay for Underwater, an in-the-works adventure that may star Kristen Stewart.
"The sequel is a priority for the studio," THR writes of Suicide Squad 2, adding that they're now "focusing on nailing down a story." Last month, Mel Gibson's name was floated as a potential director.
