The box office bosses at Marvel have been deviating from their Avengers/Iron Man/Captain America/Thor path lately with offerings like the lighthearted posse flick Guardians of the Galaxy and and the self-aware semi-silliness that is last month's Ant-Man.
But how about an R-rated movie about a guy who becomes a tremendously ugly superhero thanks to cancer in his liver, lungs, prostate and brain? Marvel's got you. The Deadpool trailer—standard version above, NSFW red-band edition below—shows Ryan Reynolds as a wise-cracking, gun-toting badass. In short, he's exactly what we've been excited about (in all senses of the word) for months.
Two new signs pointing to Deadpool's potential for greatness: The liberal use of DMX's "X Gon' Give It to Ya," and the line, "And please don't make the super-suit green—or animated!" Meaning he's ready to admit Green Lantern was junk.
