Chris Brown and Rihanna's on-again, off-again, on-again(?) relationship has sparked many a fervent opinion, but what do the stars' parents think about the whole thing? Well, Breezy's father, Clinton Brown, had more than a few choice words on the subject when he was interviewed by the New York Daily News. Most specifically:

"I personally really didn’t want him and Rihanna back together."

Adding, “You have to have a balance in a relationship. You have to have someone who is spontaneous and whimsical but you also have to have someone who is grounded and logical.”

In light of his son's recent troubles (including his January altercation with singer Frank Ocean), Clinton is worried and had a few grim comparisons on hand.

“I hate to use examples, but Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse—I mean I could go on and on,” he said. “Is that a given—that you can’t have fortune and fame without (death) being the end result?”

Clinton, who split from Brown’s mother when the singer was 6, said he understood his son's attraction to the Barbadian beauty.

“She’s beautiful, she’s exotic, she’s successful,” he said

And he acknowledges that Brown probably should date someone who understands the music industry.

“Sometimes you just need that person who will listen to you without judging, who knows what it feels like," Clinton said. "If he talks to someone who’s not in the business they may not understand.”

But Brown's pop has a very different popstar in mind:

“I personally liked Jordin Sparks. She’s a wholesome young lady, very pretty.”
